Scouting grades:Hit: 50 | Power: 50 | Run: 30 | Arm: 60 | Field: 50 From Moca, Dominican Republic, Vargas has a brother named Emilio who plays in the Minors for San Diego Padres, and it’s obvious Emilio has passed down the lessons that come with being a professional athlete to his younger brother. In short, Carlos carries himself with a confidence that is beyond his years. Scouts like his raw power and projectable body, and many believe he will have a chance to hit for power in games in the future. On defense, Vargas could be athletic enough to stay at shortstop as he matures, but he could also end up at third base.… Read More

DPL alumni Gabriel Guerrero is scorching HOT in High Desert

By Josh Jackson / 05/18/2014 2:49 AM ET The way Gabriel Guerrero has played this season, a perfect night at the plate was hardly surprising. “He had a real good game, but he’s been swinging the bat pretty well all year long,” Class A Advanced High Desert hitting coach Max Venable said of the Mariners’ 10th-ranked prospect. “He’s been pretty successful, especially for a young kid in this league. Dominicans in the $240 Million plus Club

Mariners sign Robinson Cano to 10-year, $240 million deal   December 6, 2013, 1:00 pm CHASE HUGHES / The Seattle Mariners have pulled off quite the shocker, reeling in All-Star second baseman Robinson Cano with a ten-year deal worth $240 million. The contract matches the one Albert Pujols signed with the Angels in December of 2008, the third largest in major league history. Letting free agents walk, especially players of the caliber of Cano, hasn’t exactly been the Yankees’ M.O. over the years. They set a maximum offer at $200 million and apparently didn’t budge when Cano and his agent Jay-Z demanded more. Instead of paying Cano $240 million, they allocating nearly the same amount to two other free agents on the market.… Read More
