Showcase Day One Recap

Game One

In the first game of the day, Red took on Blue and the runs came early.  Daniel Bautista led off the game for Red and started it off with a single to center which was quickly followed by a Imanol Marinez single to right that scored Bautista.  Then a few batters later Osvaldo Guerrero came to the plate and knocked in Marinez giving Red a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first.  Blue, however, did not just go quietly in the bottom of the inning scoring a run of their own as Roger Contreras led off the inning with a single up the middle, stole second and then advanced and scored on 2 consecutive groundouts.

Red then came back to the plate in the top of the second and responded scoring two more as Neify Marinez hit a single into center and immediately stole second which allowed him to score as he was followed by a Felix Reyes single also into center.  Reyes came around to score on that same play as an error resulted in the ball ending up in CF.  The bats then quieted down until the bottom of the third when Blue managed to tie it up at four on a 3-run blast to left by Junior Santana that also scored Widimer Joaquin and Jery Hernandez, who reached respectively on a passed ball strike 3 and an error by the first baseman.  Later in the game Red would sneak Oliver Moreno across to retake the lead, 5-4.  Unfortunately, for Red that would not last long as Blue would win in walk-off fashion by a score of 6-5.

Player of The Game: Junior Santana

Game Two

The late game was not as high scoring of an affair with the final score consisting of a total of 3 runs.  The Black and Red team got runners on but failed to get anything across in the top half of the first, the Blue team did not do the same.  Joerlin De Los Santos demonstrated his toolset to start the bottom half of the inning driving a ball to right-center and then legging out a stand-up triple.  This brought up Carlos Aguiar and he drove a ball of his own this one down the right-field line for an RBI double, giving Blue an early 1-0 lead.  After that, the bats were silenced until the top of the third when George Valera got the Black and Red team on the board with a solo home run to right-center.

Later in the game Joerlin De Los Santos would do his thing again hitting a bloop should be single into left-center but neither the center fielder or left fielder moved on it quick enough to get the 6.41 runner allowing him to turn it into a double.  He then immediately stole third and scored on an error, giving Blue a 2-1 lead that wouldn’t be relinquished.
