The outfielder has an above-average hit tool and is one of the most dominant hitters on the market. Scouts also consider him one of the more polished bats in this year’s class.
Soto has a graceful swing, and although he doesn’t have a ton of raw power, he has a knack for barreling balls. He also doesn’t swing and miss very often. What’s more, the gap power he displays is expected to improve as he develops.
Soto has an average arm and good instincts on defense. Some believed Soto would be in the competition for the overall top player in the class, but his run tool has quite literally kept him out of that race. That said, Soto has shown skills on both sides of the ball, and he shines in games.
In other words, he’s a gamer.
The Nationals have agreed to terms with Soto for $1.5MM.
