Showcase Day Three Recap

Game 1

The first game of the day was started off with Nelfy Abreu demonstrating his offensive abilities by driving a double into left before stealing third.  Imanol Marinez followed Abreu in the lineup and although he grounded out to third it was enough to allow the plus runner in Abreu to score giving Blue an early 1-0 lead.  The next run of the game would cross the plate in the bottom half of the second when Osvaldo Guerrero would absolutely punish a ball and send it flying out in left-center, tying the game at one apiece.

Neither team would manage anything in the third.  Then in the top of the fourth Eddys Leonard reached on a single to start the inning and advanced on consecutive Santana and Abreu groundouts.  He would manage to score and give Blue the lead on an error by the left fielder on a ball George Valera placed into play.  The game went quiet from that point until the top of the 6th when Blue started to heat up.  They managed one more when Carlos Sanchez singled, stole second, advanced to third on a Pedro Sanchez groundout, and scored on a Johansel Pontiel RBI single into center.

In the 7th it was Leonard who got it started once again this time with a single to third that he used his speed to beat out and then advanced to second on a throwing error by the third baseman.  After that, he stole third and scored on a Junior Santana sac fly.  This brought up Abreu who produced a single into right before stealing both second and third and scoring on a passed ball to give blue a 5-1 lead.

In the 8th and final inning, Blue would produce once again started off by a Mauro Bonifacio infield single toward short.  He then used his speed again to steal second before Cristian Heredia moved him to third with a single of his own, this one into center.  Two batters later Carlos Sanchez would single scoring Bonifacio.  Then with Heredia on second and Sanchez on first they both stole setting up a Josue Pujols two-run double into left closing out an 8-1 victory.

Game 2

Game two started off slow with neither team managing to get a run across through the first two and a half innings of play.  Then in the bottom of the third Jery Hernandez singled into right and would score a batter later on a Hector Lucero RBI double.  This ended the scoring drought because then in the top of the fourth Red managed a run of their own when Bryan Rodriguez started the inning off with a double into left-center and Mauricio Hernandez knocked him in with a double of his own into left.  In the bottom half of the 4th, Sidney Pimentel hit a missile over the wall in left to retake the lead for Blue.

That lead wouldn’t last long though because Ronny Mauricio started the top of the 5th off with a triple into right-center and scored a batter later on a Carlos Aguiar RBI single.  Once again Red couldn’t maintain the lead because in the bottom half of the 5th Gabriel Cabrera singled into right, before stealing second and taking third and home on a pair of passed balls.

In the top half of the 6th, Red managed to retie the game but that wouldn’t last long because in the bottom half of the inning Blue managed to plate two more the first when Diony Joseph crushed a ball into right-center for a triple before scoring on a passed ball.  Finally, in the 7th Red tried to muster up a comeback but could only manage one when Bryan Rodriguez singled into center, took second on a passed ball and scored on an error by the shortstop.

In the end, Blue defeated Red by a score of 5-4.
