DPL Alumni Willy Adames Heating Up Down In Charlotte

The Undercards: Willy Adames Slams 2 Doubles, Drives in 2 by Robbie Knopf Rays Colored Glasses High-A Florida State League: Charlotte Stone Crabs 6, Bradenton Marauders (PIT) 5 Willy Adames is a player that we have mentioned surprisingly little in these minor league recaps. Firstly, we should expect that to change, and secondly, that doesn’t mean that he is playing poorly. Adames delivered a big game on Monday, going 2 for 4 with 2 doubles, a walk, 2 RBI, and 3 runs scored. His line on the season now stands at .266/.314/.422, which is a little short of where he wants to be but is certainly nothing to scoff at. Adames is just 19 years old in a league where the average age is nearly 24.… Read More

DPL Alumni Manuel Margot, center of attention

With the Red Sox starters’ ERA sitting at 6.03, the time may be getting closer for the team to make a move and acquire a solid starter. And with Cole Hamels checking in with a 0.69 ERA over the last seven days, it may be a perfect time for Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. to move his prized left-hander. According to a report in the Philadelphia Daily News, former Phillies manager Charlie Manuel, now in the team’s front office, is heading to Salem, Virginia this week to scout the Red Sox High-A affiliate in the Carolina league where 20-year-old five-tool outfielder Manuel Margot has been crushing the ball this season. Margot is currently batting .323/.361/.523, going 21-for-65 in 17 games this season.… Read More

DPL Alumni Duanel Jones Shines for Fort Wayne Tincaps

Third Baseman Leads Midwest League in Batting By John Nolan / Fort Wayne TinCaps 04/28/2015 10:35 PM ETFORT WAYNE, Ind. — The TinCaps tallied 10 hits Tuesday night at Parkview Field, but lost to the Dayton Dragons, 9-1, in the opener of a three-game series. Third baseman Duanel Jones, who finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate, gave Fort Wayne a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning with an RBI single. For Jones, it was his team-leading 13th RBI of the year. The 21-year-old from the Dominican Republic is now hitting .388 — tops in the Midwest League. His 13 RBIs rank fourth. However, the TinCaps lead didn’t last long. Dayton (10-9) put up three runs in the top of the fourth inning and broke the game open with a six-run seventh.… Read More

Dominican Prospects on Baseball America HOT SHEET

This installment of the Prospect Hot Sheet covers games from April 17-23. Remember, this feature simply recognizes the hottest prospects in the minors during the past week—it’s not a re-ranking of the Baseball America Top 100 Prospects. Contributing: Ben Badler, J.J. One of the top prospects on the international market in 2011, Guzman hit well his first year in the Rookie-level Arizona League in 2012 and had shown a sound swing with good plate discipline and emerging power.… Read More

Alex Reyes working third digit

By Jake Seiner / MiLB.com 04/22/2015 10:00 AM ET Unlike last week’s Stock Watch focus, the Orioles’ Branden Kline, Reyes’ velocity jump is merely a matter of a 20-year-old adding strength. In fact, many observers expected Reyes to add heat with age, although one can’t predict that anybody will sit in the upper 90s. Reyes is more than a live arm at this point, though. While with Class A Peoria in 2014, he and pitching coach Jason Simontacchi targeted two specific areas for Reyes to improve: The first was that Reyes lacked a veteran’s routine; then there was his lackluster changeup, which needed dramatic sharpening. The routine was an easy enough fix, and the 20-year-old now has the habits needed to maintain and improve his repertoire and command throughout a season.… Read More

DPL Alumni Felix Jorge dominated in his 2015 debut

Kernels’ Jorge carves through Snappers Twins right-hander strikes out 10 en route to first win of season By Tyler Maun / MiLB.com 04/13/2015 All spring, Twins coaches told right-hander Felix Jorge to be more aggressive in trusting his talent. In his first outing of the season, the 21-year-old showed them he’s been listening. Jorge dominated in his 2015 debut, striking out 10 and allowing just two hits over seven innings Monday as Class A Cedar Rapids blanked Beloit, 9-0, to remain unbeaten on the fledgling season. “I had a real good combination of pitches where me and [catcher Brian] Navaretto were working together good,” Jorge said through translator Henry Bonilla, his pitching coach. “We set them up with the fastball to go to the breaking ball.… Read More

Carlos Martinez ready for his big opportunity

INFO by Brian Feldman, Baseball STL KMOV.com Posted on February 28, 2015 JUPITER, Fla. (Baseball STL) — When the Cardinals traded former 1st round pick Shelby Miller to Atlanta in a deal to acquire right fielder Jason Heyward it opened up a lot of debate as to what the corresponding move would be.  Could the Cardinals go with what they had to fill that open rotation spot vacated by Miller? Or would GM John Mozeliak be forced to go outside the organization – again – to bring someone in? In the eyes of 23-year old Carlos Martinez, however, there was no question.  He believes the job is his.  He believes he’s good enough, having paid his dues in the bullpen, to get this chance. … Read More
