Scouting grades:  Hit: 50 | Power: 65 | Run: 35 | Arm: 55 | Field: 50 Two words come to mind when Ortiz’s name is mentioned: raw power. Ortiz has the most raw power in the entire class, the type of power scouts have not seen from a player his age in years. The teenager puts on a show during batting practice and more importantly, he has shown the ability to hit for power in games. His home runs are legendary, and his line drives into the gaps are just as impressive. Some scouts have concerns about his overall athleticism and wonder if his large frame will eventually force him to switch positions from the outfield (left field) to first base.… Read More

Almonte Allows 2 Hits in 5 Scoreless Inngs

Royals righty tosses five two-hit frames, first baseman homers twice By Kelsie Heneghan / MiLB.com While hitting may be contagious, it’s overall success that’s being passed around in the Naturals clubhouse. With help from cleanup hitter Balbino Fuenmayor’s two home runs, Royals’ No. 5 prospect Miguel Almonte secured his third straight win as Double-A Northwest Arkansas topped Arkansas, 5-3, on Monday at Dickey-Stephens Park. The right-hander held the Travelers to two hits and two walks while fanning three across five innings. “Outstanding, just great fastball, electric,” Naturals manager Vance Wilson said of Almonte (3-1). “He was getting ahead of the hitters, did a nice job of throwing his breaking ball for strikes and also being able to come in here and get a couple strikeouts below the zone.” After Fuenmayor put Northwest Arkansas ahead in the first with a two-run blast to left-center field, Almonte allowed a single in the home half of the frame to Drew Maggi, but quickly erased the runner with his first pickoff of the season.… Read More
