Lorenzen’s gem leaves door open for ’19 rotation

Saturday's starters had plenty of motivation for the Reds and Pirates. Michael Lorenzen's 5 2/3 scoreless innings gave him a case as an intriguing candidate for Cincinnati's 2019 rotation. Jameson Taillon was hit hard, but he grinded through six innings to keep his 22-game streak allowing three earned runs or fewer intact. Lorenzen was backed by Eugenio Suarez's 34th homer of the year, and he helped himself out with a rocket RBI single in the fourth.
